Omega-3 fatty acids are essential unsaturated fatty acids (EFAs), i.e., they must be supplied "from outside" because the body cannot synthesize them. These include alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). EPA and DHA can also be synthesized from ALA using enzymes, however, in humans, this process is not sufficient. Therefore, they should be supplied through food or supplementation (especially in the absence/low supply of oily sea fish). Omega-3 acids show a broad effect on the body, including: anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, cardioprotective, alleviating painful menstruation, improving insulin sensitivity, and reducing androgen production. Therefore, they should be one of the foundations of daily supplementation supporting our health.
